How It Works

Tacrograf 2 mg Capsule is composed of tacrolimus that helps prevent the rejection of a transplanted kidney, liver, or heart. Consistent use of the medicine is important since any alteration in the regimen increases the chances of organ rejection. Your physician will be responsible for adjusting the dose according to your blood results.
Tacrolimus works by holding back the immune cells that would otherwise treat a donor organ as an intruder. What matters most with this medicine is the amount circulating in your blood: too low and rejection becomes a risk, too high and the kidneys may suffer for it. That is the reason dosing is reviewed against lab reports, particularly in the months right after transplant surgery.

Dosage & How to Use

  • Swallow the capsule whole with water; don't chew or crush it unless told.
  • The initial dosage is calculated depending on the patient’s weight and the kind of transplant.
  • Take it at the same time daily, following your doctor's advice on meals.
  • Don’t eat grapefruits or drink their juice, as it increases the concentration of tacrolimus.
  • Your dosage will be adjusted over time based on blood test results.

Side Effects

  • Hand tremors or slight shakiness are common when starting this treatment.
  • Blood pressure may climb, so regular home monitoring is often recommended.
  • Kidney function can shift while your doctor works out the right dose.
  • You may become somewhat more prone to everyday infections during therapy.
  • Some patients may experience mild headaches or sleep disturbances.

Storage

  • Do not open the blister pack until you need to take the capsules.
  • Store at temperatures below 25°C, in a cool and dry place, free from both moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Bathroom shelves are usually too humid; pick a dry cupboard instead.
  • Keep the medicine pack well out of reach of children and household pets.
  • Return any expired or unused capsules to your pharmacist for disposal.
