How It Works
Pegfilgrastim is a long-acting form of G-CSF used as supportive treatment during certain chemotherapy regimens. Chemotherapy can reduce the number of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell important for fighting infections. When neutrophil levels become very low, patients may develop febrile neutropenia and have an increased risk of serious infections.
Pegasta helps stimulate the bone marrow to produce and release neutrophils, supporting recovery of white blood cell levels following chemotherapy. It is generally administered according to the chemotherapy schedule under the direction of an oncologist.
