How It Works

Belonging to the carbapenem class, Merocrit 1 gm Injection stops bacterial wall synthesis. It treats severe cases of pneumonia, meningitis, and stomach or urinary infections that ordinary antibiotics cannot clear. Supplied as a dry powder for reconstitution, dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with kidney problems.

Dosage & How to Use

  • ✦ Follow the dosing and timing your doctor sets for Merocrit 1 gm Injection.
  • ✦ The vial powder is reconstituted with sterile water shortly before the injection is given.
  • ✦ The diluted solution is slowly infused into the vein over roughly 15 to 30 minutes.
  • ✦ For patients with reduced kidney clearance, doctors lower unit doses or extend time between infusions.

Side Effects

  • ✦ Nausea and loose motions are reported quite often along with headache.
  • ✦ At the drip site, pain or swelling is fairly common and usually settles on its own.
  • ✦ Rash turns up in some patients. Fever with peeling skin requires medical attention.
  • ✦ If diarrhoea becomes severe or bloodstained, a bowel infection may be behind it, and the doctor should know.

Storage

  • ✦ Store dry powder vials below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep away from light.
  • ✦ Reconstituted liquid vials keep pure potency for up to three hours in indoor air or up to 24 cold hours in fridges.
  • ✦ Once reconstituted, the solution is used straight away. Any leftover is discarded.
  • ✦ Freezing the prepared solution is not acceptable, and a discoloured vial should not be used.
